On June 25, 2026, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced $24 million in funding available to modernize the grid through NYSERDA’s Grid Enhancing Technologies program. By supporting projects that improve low-cost high-accuracy grid sensors, modeling and simulation tools, and advanced engineering solutions, the initiative encourages approaches that boost system performance and reliability and help utilities integrate renewable generation more efficiently. The funding is provided through the New York State Public Service Commission’s 2025 Innovation and Research Order.
Applicants, that may include commercial firms, manufacturers, industry associations, research organizations, universities, government agencies, corporations, or investors or end-users, must first submit concept papers of their proposals. Once evaluated, a select group of applicants will be invited to submit a final proposal. Rolling submissions are accepted until September 9, 2026.
Developed in partnership with Joint Utilities of New York members Con Edison, Central Hudson Gas & Electric, National Grid, New York State Electric and Gas, Rochester Gas & Electric, and Orange & Rockland through the Advanced Technology Working Group, this program has awarded $128 million to over 178 companies and research organizations since 2016.
