The Biden-Harris Administration has announced the launch of a new Climate Innovation Working Group and $100 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to support transformational low-carbon technologies. The initiatives are designed to encourage job creation and technology advancements to help the United States tackle the climate crisis.
A core focus of the Climate Innovation Working Group will be to accelerate R&D investments and work toward President Biden’s campaign commitment of launching and Advanced Research Projects Agency-Climate, an analog to DARPA (the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and ARPA-E (the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy).
The first step in this initiative has been the establishment of a $100 million funding opportunity via ARPA-E to support transformational low-carbon energy technologies.
The Climate Innovation Working Group has also set an intention to engage programs at land-grant universities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs).
